Poison Ivy, Oak, and Sumac Explained: Poison Ivy is characterized by three pointed leaflets, which assume bright colors in the fall, turning yellow, then red. It is found everywhere in the United States except Alaska, Hawaii, and California, and is most common in the eastern and mid-western states.
